MacBook Pro 15-inch (2012)

Can the RAM be upgraded in the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2012)?

Yes. This model uses standard SO-DIMM modules and supports up to 16 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM (2 x 8 GB).

What is the maximum RAM capacity and type?

The maximum is 16 GB using two 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SO-DIMM modules. It officially supports 8 GB, but 16 GB works reliably with third-party modules.

Can the storage drive be upgraded?

Yes. The 2012 model has a standard 2.5-inch SATA III hard drive bay, which can be replaced with any 2.5-inch SATA SSD. Some configurations also include a secondary SATA III slot in the optical drive bay.

Is the battery replaceable?

Yes. The battery is a user-replaceable part held in by screws. It can be swapped out with a compatible replacement battery.

Can the optical drive be removed for additional storage?
